While acknowledging that the show’s aesthetic relied heavily on melodrama, Kendrick Lamar couldn’t help but notice that Drake’s performance in Degrassi’s 4th season stood out as particularly heavy-handed. “I didn’t buy it for a second,” Kendrick started, “but I also understand the difficulties that come with playing a character experiencing both physical and psychological trauma, and that actors can only imitate and never truly replicate human experience, even in the best of circumstances. That being said, given that Aubrey and Jimmy both share the defining characteristic of wanting to have sex with high-schoolers, he should’ve been better.”
